Sherwood High School senior, Ken Yohe, spent his summer working as an intern for Skanska Construction on the new high school project.  Ken went through the application process last spring and was selected by Skanska to take on the internship role.  The internship directly applies to Ken's college and career plans, which include construction management and civil engineering.  This internship allow Ken to work first hand in his future field and gain valuable knowledge for moving forward in that field.  See the full article that was published by Skanska on their USA site as well as the story published by the Portland Business Journal.

2018 Deferred Maintenance

On September 4, 2018 all the schools are back opened to students and the public.  The summer of 2018 was a busy one for construction within the District.  There were signs posted outside multiple schools, displaying the work planned to occur in that building over the summer, including flooring, painting, security vestibules, HVAC updates, roofing, and more.  A few additional construction projects will continue in some buildings into the school year, as planned.

Transformation Visioning Advisory Committees

posted Jun 21, 2018, 3:22 PM by Summer Bowman   [ updated Jun 21, 2018, 3:27 PM ]

In November 2016 the Sherwood School District passed a Capital Improvement Bond; the largest project being a new high school that will open in the fall of 2020. Another key component is the transformation of several schools, to new levels, in order to offer the District additional capacity at all levels. The existing high school will become a middle school; Laurel Ridge Middle School will become an elementary school; and Sherwood Middle School will house what is now Hopkins Elementary. We are very intentional about referring to those changes as transformations, because they are about so much more than altering the existing buildings. They are about rethinking what one middle school can “look” like -- how we can create a model where students are still known, and where there is still a smaller school “feel.” The transformations are about reimagining what can be with respect to elementary schools, and the students and staff within them, flourishing in new locations. To that end, we have been working with three Transformation Visioning Advisory Committees (TVACs), comprised of parents, certified staff, classified staff, Board members, and administrators – all serving in advisory roles to the District. The three advisory committees are the (1) Sherwood High School transformation to the new middle school, (2) Sherwood Middle School transformation to Hopkins Elementary, and (3) Laurel Ridge Middle School transformation to an elementary. Thank you to all who are serving, and to all who expressed an interest in being a part of this work.

The very first TVAC meeting was held in early May, and focused on the work relative to transforming the current high school into a middle school. This particular TVAC wrapped-up their last meeting in early June. As we shift into the summer months, the second and third TVACs are both getting ready to kick-off their first meetings on June 14, and continue through the summer and fall months. The District is looking forward to beginning that important work! The District website has a section devoted solely to the 2016 Capital Improvement Bond, and will also include the transformation work. We hope you will visit that site frequently in order to stay current on all of the exciting work taking place.
